Adam Jimerson: Introduction to PacBSD

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 - 6:00pm

We are pleased to have Adam Jimerson presenting for us this month. Adam is a software engineer at Code Journeymen, Drupaler and Gopher alike, Polyglot developer, Free/Libre Open Source Software and general technology enthusiast, and PacBSD contributor.

"Introduction to PacBSD, a new free libre open source operating system based on Arch Linux and FreeBSD"

PacBSD (Pacman BSD) is a rolling release take on FreeBSD by pulling in parts of Arch Linux into it. We use FreeBSD as our core because of the improved memory management, improved network stack, code quality, and security that FreeBSD offers over Linux. At the same time the pieces of Arch Linux we pull in because of their simple and user-centric nature.

The location will once again be at the Blount County Library. We will be in the Dorothy Herron room - Room A. There should also be a sign directing people to the room in the hallway. If you have any questions about the meeting, you can contact us by signing up for our mailing list or visiting us on #knoxbug.
